Golfers that only a few days before were playing in temperatures in the nineties, found golfing in cold and clammy conditions with a healthy dose of wind bumping up scores field wide. For Madison Yang (Rochester Hills), all of her hard work was paid off as training and support by her parents and gave her a single shot victory in the co-ed division in the Top-50 Jr. Scholarship Tour at Pontiac Country Club. Yang's victory was not easy. She won by a single stroke (46) over a trio of boys, Preston Johnson of Troy and Austin Kaczocha of Rochester Hills. Nicklaus Smith of Oakland Twp. finished two strokes behind the leaders. For Yang, she has supportive parents and makes no bones about her singular focus about playing in the 'show'. The boys 12-15 division was wound pretty tight as a nine way battle for the lead was decided by a single stroke and Jeremy Jenkins of Farmington Hills, a player who started just a few years ago, used stellar fairway play to hit by his estimation 10 greens to give him a chance at a bushel load of birdies. Garrett Kuppler of (Washington Twp.) and Sam Yono (West Bloomfield) were only a single shot behind and the lead changed hands multiple times down the stretch.
